When some passwords work but others don't, the issue might be with sites that block browsers from remembering passwords.
1. Have the user enter a fake username and password on http://support.mozilla.com . Firefox should still offer to remember it even if it doesn't work.
2. If that works find out what sites aren't working and check them yourself.
Jesse's bookmarklet for getting around autocomplete=off works, and some extensions are available -

1) Realplayer browser record. Installed with Realplayer (particularly
annoying because it's installed globally or something... not easy to
uninstall) ... it causes images not to display, forms submission to
break and will often break embedded flash videos or games.
2) Skype Extension for Firefox. This has almost become my catch-all
problem causer: breaks jpgs, pdfs, randomly hangs Firefox, causes pages
to stop loading, links to break. If they have the Skype Toolbar (the
old version of the extension) it'll often break chrome in screwy ways.
(Blank URL bar, missing buttons etc etc)... and people with skype often
have both. It can also cause pages to reload on refocus or constantly
reload.
3) Thinkvantage Password Manager Extension. Comes with Lenovo
computers. Crashes Firefox when new windows are launched (popups
included) and gives errors, random freezes. There are quite a few
forum threads on this one, it was a HUGE deal about 2-3 months ago.
4) McAfee SiteAdvisor. Then #1 complaint is that even after
uninstalling it, it leaves a line disabling the popup blocker in user.js
which is really really annoying. Per the problematic extensions
website, it causes other errors but I've honestly never seen them before.
5) XPL LinkScanner. Causes crashes. This is covered in the crashes
article so I don't have a grasp for the extent of the problem.
6) MediaWrap. I think this installed by default on some distro versions
(EeePC?) of Firefox to give ActiveX handling. Like all ActiveX
handling, this breaks stuff. (This isn't on the PE page and isn't all
that common, to be fair.)
7) Toolbars from Google, Yahoo, Amazon, Ask.com. Generally people will
have multiple and then complain about slow and unresponsive Firefox.
(not a major problem) Some of these toolbars leak memory or cause
crashes or script warnings. The bigger annoyance is you can hide the
toolbars from view and still have it installed and causing problems but
the user thinks it's gone. -

Some users are reporting connection issues, or Firefox hanging. Safe mode doesn't work, but a new profile does. These users all have the following lines in their prefs.js, removing the lines solves the problem.
user_pref("yahoo.addtomy", true);
user_pref("yahoo.homepage.dontask", true);
user_pref("yahoo.installer.country", "us");
user_pref("yahoo.installer.dc", "v1_msgr");
user_pref("yahoo.installer.language", "us");
user_pref("yahoo.installer.nd", 1);
user_pref("yahoo.installer.pc", "msgr1");
user_pref("yahoo.installer.sc", "msgr");
user_pref("yahoo.installer.version", "1.4.0.20070112");
user_pref("yahoo.installer.version.simple", "1.4.0");
user_pref("yahoo.supports.livesearch", true);
Checking add/remove programs there are some Yahoo programs listed, I'd suspect Yahoo Browser services or Yahoo toolbar -

Flash crashing? First, try the test sites:
1. http://oldes.multimedia.cz/swf/star.swf (simple, static image)
2. http://www.cuatro.com/videos/index.html?xref=20080207ctoultpro_6.Ves&view=ver (Single flash plugin, with a video)
3. http://www.disney.com (Full flash-based website)
If only some sites crash, check the video drivers; it could be a buggy driver. Look for outdated ATI drivers and VNC hook drivers, from winvnc/ultravnc/tightvnc.
